Archbishop Murphy describes Confirmation as the choice a young person makes of Gospel values and our faith traditions over the values and morals of contemporary modern American socety in his weekly “In Joy and Hope” column for the Catholic Northwest Progress. “To help young people make the right choices, the church offers them the gift of the Holy Spirit,” said the archbishop. “This is not a new gift, but one given to each of them on the day of their baptism. The Holy Spirit comes into their lives to help them live up to the challenge of being disciples of Jesus today.”
