Racism and the violence emanating from it are the subjects of Archbishop Murphy’s weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. He cites the unfortunate ability we as human beings possess to inflict violence on others. The archbishop invokes the Holocaust as one of the most preeminent examples of racism and violence in the history of mankind; unfortunately, the roots of this genocide exist today. “The violence of today’s society has deep roots fed by a racism which denies the dignity of every human being made in the image of God,” said Archbishop Murphy. “We cannot allow ourselves or our world to forget what racism can do to the human race.”
