In the sixth and final in a series of columns on spirituality for the Catholic Northwest Progress, Archbishop Murphy stipulates a commitment to spirituality demands we live out the mystery of Christ’s passion and death. He calls attention to Jesus Christ’s willingness to accept God’s plan – as opposed to the “me first” mindset so prevalent in today’s society. “Yet, Jesus reverses the values of society and offers us the example of being open to God’s will, and telling us by his example that giving up everything, even life itself, brings the ultimate self-fulfillment,” said Archbishop Murphy. From his perspective, faith is the basis for our spirituality – a faith that invites us to see more than meets the eye.
