Archbishop Murphy calls on all Christians to recognize, appreciate and support the gift of lay ministry in his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column. In his view, lay ministry involves so much more than just fulfilling a task or function. Ministry finds its meaning and purpose in its relationship to the mission of the church. “If the church is to fulfill its mission today, it needs the gifts and talents of lay people,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Lay ministry enables the church to make a difference in the lives of people as a result of the dedicated and selfless service of gifted women and men.”
