Archbishop Murphy devotes his weekly “In Joy and Hope” column for the Catholic Northwest Progress to sharing his views on why it is essential for the church to actively engage in the political process. He explains the church supports issues and not individual candidates. “Our own experience with politics in our nation today should make us aware that politics deals with moral issues – issues of abortion and sexuality, issues of hunger and homelessness, issues of war and peace, issues of poverty and unemployment,” said Archbishop Murphy. “If we do not apply religious values to political choices, we fail in our obligation to be religious people who live in a world of moral choices for good or evil.”
