Bishop Murphy, in his address to the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, discusses how the Boy Scouts create and nurture an environment conducive to encouraging vocations to serve the Church. In his opinion, the essential qualities stipulated in the Scout Oath, trustworthiness, loyalty, charity, thrift, bravery, cleanliness and reverence, are identical to those the Church requires of all Christians who respond to the call of a vocation – lay, religious and ordained.
