In this keynote address to an assembly of priests at Holy Trinity Seminary in the Diocese of Dallas, TX, Bishop Murphy delivers the second part of his speech on the crisis of priestly identity in the church and the identification and definition of the significant aspects and characteristics of what a priest is. In his view, “The Church must encourage its priests and religious to recognize that their ministry is not the only ministry within the Christian community today. … We cannot afford to exhaust the rich resource of ordained ministry to the point of non-presence by the failure of the Christian community to fulfill its distinct role and responsibility.”
