In his weekly Montana Catholic Register “Reflections” column, Bishop Murphy expounds on how quality music and song can enhance the Celebration of the Eucharist. He goes on to say, “A basic underlying principle of liturgy was again emphasized the need for full, active and conscious participation by the total Christian community in its worship. This is not only a right, but also a duty of Christian people where their participation is internal through a spirit of prayer, but also external through gestures, bodily altitudes, by the acclamations, responses and singing.”
