Archbishop Murphy celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Newman Center on the campus of the University of Washington. His homily spoke of the sanctity of life in the context of the pending ballot Initiatives 119 and 120. These initiatives will respectfully legalize assisted suicide of terminally ill adults and materially expand abortion rights in Washington State. The archbishop described all of God’s children as having the responsibility of being stewards of the gift of life. He urged all present to embrace this responsibility – to protect the most vulnerable in society. “My friends, life is a precious and fragile gift,” said Archbishop Murphy. “We share its joy and its pain, its hope and its struggles.”
