Archbishop Murphy bases his homily at the Feast of St. James Celebration in St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA on the two questions Jesus asked James and his brother John: “What are you looking for?” and “Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” The archbishop believes what many find important in life such as material possessions is in reality fragile and fleeting. Christ’s questions force us to assess whether or not we dare to take the risk of being his disciples. “If we respond as James did, then we are engaged in the tremendous adventure of being a disciple of Jesus, the exciting challenge of reversing values and being willing to serve instead of being served, and the discovery of far more than meets the eye,” said Archbishop Murphy.
