The crux of Archbishop Murphy’s homily at the Easter Vigil Mass in St. James Cathedral is to describe this celebration as a “cruel feast” – a victory over sin and death Christ paid for with his life. “Easter is a cruel feast because even as we celebrate this wonderful night, we know the price we must pay for Christ to take over our lives fully and completely,” Archbishop Murphy said. “We must be willing to surrender all we have and all we hold dear when these things get in the way of following Christ and fully participating in his Easter victory.”
