Introduction
The Reverend Thomas J. Murphy delivered this inaugural address as the first president of the Presbyteral Senate of the Archdiocese of Chicago. “The existence of a Senate of Priests is not a haphazard experience,” said Rev. Murphy. “The Senate exists as a manifestation of the presbyterate united with the bishop, concerned for the total good of the Church. To the Senate also belongs the right to express a vision, a sharing of goals, a manifestation of concern that must be articulated loud and clear.”
