Bishop Murphy was a strong proponent for the meaningful participation of lay and religious women in the Catholic Church throughout his life as a priest and bishop. In his address to the Diocese of Helena’s Council of Catholic Women, Bishop Murphy states, “Yet, we know that by baptism, all human beings, men and women, are co-heirs with Christ of the Kingdom of heaven. All human beings enjoy a fundamental equality in dignity and action rooted in baptism in virtue of which all are to cooperate in building the Body of Christ according to their proper condition and responsibility.”
