Archbishop Murphy shared his vision of Catholic schools and the value they create to a gathering of Catholic school principals in Renton, WA. The basis for his remarks was the Code of Canon Law. He cites Canon 795 as defining the four elements of the educational enterprise: holistic, developmental, social and personal. The archbishop articulated his view by stating, “The key for me in the success stories of Catholic schools in our nation is when they dare to be “Roman Catholic,” when there is a quality of religious instruction and practice expected and lived out by the entire school community – students, parents, and especially administrators and teachers.”
