Archbishop Murphy, in his commencement address to the St. Martin’s College Class of 1989, invoked the meaning of the Pentecost as he challenged all graduates to renew the face of the earth. He encouraged them to go out and use their skills and abilities to make a difference in the world – to help create a gracious society. The archbishop expressed his perspective by stating, “A gracious society is one where we recognize the presence of God within ourselves, within others, and within the world in which we live.”
