In his address to career ministers of the Archdiocese of Seattle, Archbishop Murphy likens ministry in the Church to a mystery – a mystery prompting many questions about how we are to live and believe. He used three resources to articulate his vision for ministry: Lumen Gentium (on of the principle documents of the Second Vatican Council), the book “Contemporary Issues of Christian Ministry” and the celebration of the Eucharist. “Our Church in its teaching and tradition, does not see ministry from an egalitarian perspective devoid of distinct roles and responsibilities,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Our very nature as a Church calls us to be exactly that: a community with distinct roles and responsibilities who live out ministry in a collaborative fashion.”
