In his homily offered at Midnight Mass celebrated in St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA, Archbishop Murphy announces to all that we are not alone. He proclaims Jesus Christ has come to teach us who we are – the essence of the incarnation. The archbishop seizes upon the symbolic significance of shepherds, often viewed as marginal characters, being some of the first people to learn of Christ’s birth. “Luke, at the very beginning of his Gospel, strikes a chord which will be repeated over and over again – the God of Jesus Christ has the disturbing propensity to appear among the marginalized and the eccentric,” said Archbishop Murphy. We as disciples of Jesus Christ must be ready and willing to go meet God where we least expect to find Him – among the least fortunate.
