Archbishop Murphy delivered the commencement address to the Bellarmine College Preparatory High School Class of 1989 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA. He cited the example of Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador, who was assassinated while presiding at a Mass, as someone who dared to take the risk of believing in Jesus Christ. The archbishop challenged all of the graduates to do the same by stating, “… I thought I could wish you nothing better than to hope that you will be people who will dare to take the risk of taking what you have learned here at Bellarmine and helping it become a reality in today’s world.”
