In this address to a gathering of the leaders of theologates at Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO, Bishop Murphy offers his perspectives on the formation and education of pre-theologians who are educated in secular universities in relation to their eventual priestly ministry. He identifies and discusses two major components of seminary education: academics and formation. One prime point of focus for Bishop Murphy was the expectation of all pre-theology programs to develop and maintain a rigorous screening process. “We should not hesitate to have demanding expectations for candidates desiring to enter a pre-theologate program,” said Bishop Murphy. “This is an issue of paramount importance.”
