In his weekly “In Joy and Hope” column for the Catholic Northwest Progress, Archbishop Murphy writes about the moving experience of celebrating the Feast of Pentecost with the Swinomish Indians at St Paul’s Mission. He made it a point to be present and minster to the Native American community throughout his time as the spiritual leader of the Church of Western Washington. “I could not help think about the great gifts which the first missionaries shared with the Native American people,” said Archbishop Murphy. “But the Native American people also shared, and continue to share, powerful gifts with our society.”
