In this address to the National Catholic Development Conference, Bishop Murphy offers some additional thoughts on a “theology of fundraising.” He described this approach as an “attempt to give religious meaning to what many see as a task or function.” In his view, “Charity can be a choice; justice is an obligation. In fundraising, we challenge people to respond to that sense of justice based on the awareness that what we possess is not our own, but rather God’s gifts to us, and the further awareness that we are members of a community of faith which calls us to responsibility and ownership of our mission as a community.”
