Archbishop Murphy began his reflection delivered at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA by asking the following question, “How do we as human beings and as a community of faith address the issues of poverty and homelessness in today’s world?” He reminds all those present that many of our fellow citizens are suffering right in our very midst. The archbishop calls on all Christians to see the face of the Lord in the needy among us. In his view, “The first line of defense for a country committed to peace and justice must be the willingness to meet the needs of the poor and homeless.”
